Call for Speakers - 2018 Conference

DC SHRM is the Washington, DC chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM.) Our chapter is committed to providing all professionals in the field of human resource management a forum for expanding their knowledge and talent.

The DC SHRM Conference is an annual one-day event designed to help members and attendees advance their HR careers. We are inviting experienced HR professionals and subject-matter experts to submit proposals to speak at our 2018 Conference which will be held on April 6, 2018 in Washington, DC.

DC SHRM is a mega chapter (500-1000 members).  Speaking at the DC SHRM conference is an excellent opportunity for you to share your knowledge and expertise with an audience of HR professionals at all levels seeking to enhance their careers.

Proposal Topics
Topics that address building your technical expertise. 
Topic examples: developing your career path, interpersonal communication, D&I, HR compliance updates, benefit design, etc.

Topics that address the strengthening of the expertise of others. 
Topic examples: new managers, performance management, creating meaningful development opportunities, etc.

Topics that address the strategic needs of your organization.
Topic examples: succession planning, building and launching compliance programs, culture building strategies, etc.

Submission Requirements

  • Please send a video sample that shows you presenting at a previous function. (PREFERRED - Not a requirement if you don't have a video.)
  • Please send a video (no more than two minutes) that communicates why you are the right person presenting the right topic for this conference.
  • Please submit an outline that identifies the following:
    • Which track your topic fits within
    • The key area of focus
    • How your presentation will further the HR discipline
    • How your presentation will further those who practice HR
    • List the immediate take aways and lessons learned that HR professionals will be able to put into practice immediately
  • Please indicate if your session will be a lecture, workshop, etc. for the delivery method.
  • Please indicate which HR competency(s) your session addresses.
  • Please indicate the level of experience for your target audience, e.g. new (1-5 years), experienced (5 - 10 years), senior (10 plus years)  
  • Please include any additional details on your session’s techniques and timeline

Presentations should be approximately one hour in length. There will be a 15-minute Q&A period following your presentation (total time: 75 minutes)
