  • Scholarships Available!
  • HRA-NCA is awarding two $1500 academic scholarships to full- and part-time undergraduate and graduate degree candidates majoring in human resources or a related area at institutions in the Washington DC metropolitan area. Applications for these scholarships are available now. THE DEADLINE FOR 2007 APPLICATIONS IS APRIL 6, 2007. Scholarships will be awarded in late April.

    Also, Catholic University will be awarding a $995 certification scholarship to an HRA-NCA member interested in studying for the upcoming HRCI PHR or SPHR certification exam. Certification scholarship applications are available now. THE DEADLINE FOR 2007 APPLICATIONS IS FEBRUARY 16, 2007.

  • Volunteers Needed for Survey Committees
  • Looking to contribute in the area of Compensation and Benefits Surveys? HRA-NCA is calling for volunteers for the 2007-2008 Compensation Survey Committee and the 2007-2008 Benefits Survey Committee. For 27 years, HRA- NCA’s Compensation Survey has been widely recognized throughout the region as the most comprehensive and reliable in the industry. Earlier this year, the Benefits Survey was introduced with great success.

    This is your opportunity to join a team of outstanding fellow HR professionals and to play a key role in the development of these high quality surveys. Substantial experience in the respective areas for each of the committees are required. Duties include attending monthly committee meetings, contributing to the development and improvement of the survey instrument, and reviewing final survey results. To apply, write a letter of interest outlining your experience and indicating the committee you are interested in and e-mail them to Doug Lwin, Director of HRA-NCA Surveys, at Doug.Lwin@americancapital.com. All applicants must be current members of HRA-NCA. Please send applications by February 12, 2007.

  • Legislative Update
  • January’s monthly Speaker Series meeting at the HRA-NCA marked our annual “Legislative Update” presented by Michael P. Aitken, the Director of Governmental Affairs, for the Society for Human Resource Management in their national office in Alexandria, VA.

    Those members who were unable to attend can view and download Michael’s presentation on the HRA-NCA web site under the legislative link.

    Our chapter attendees provided some great feedback on the presentation: “very knowledgeable (x15) ”,”excellent presentation”, “very informative & comprehensive”, ”very articulate & organized”, ”can we get him back before the end of the year to follow up on some of these issues”, etc.

    Thank you to our attendees and your feedback and we look forward to seeing you in future meetings.
