SHRM Tip |
|
SHRM is advising Chapters throughout the nation to share
this important emergency preparedness information with their
members. Please read and share the information with your
co-workers, family and loved ones.
Natural
Disaster/Weather Emergency Preparedness National Oceanic and
Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) announced to America and its
neighbors throughout the north Atlantic region that a very
active hurricane season is looming, and encouraged individuals
to make preparations to better protect their lives and
livelihoods. The impact from these storms extends well beyond
coastal areas so it is vital that residents in hurricane prone
areas get ready in advance of the hurricane season. We have
also recently seen the floods in the Midwest, fires in GA and
FL, and tornadoes in several states. SHRM has compiled
resources to assist you in preparing your workplace for
hurricanes, floods, fires, tornadoes, and other natural
disasters. To receive resources on this topic, please select
key term SUMMER: WEATHER EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS, complete and
submit the form at http://

May's
Chapter Meeting |
|
Our May speaker series lunch was highlighted by Vicki Hess
from Catalyst Consulting, LLC who gave her presentation on
unresolved workplace conflict titled "Bullies, Babies and
Brats: Using ViewPointShift to Get Along with Anyone at Work."
Our attendees received 1.25 recertification credit hours
toward PHR, SPHR, and GPHR through the Human Resource
Certification Institute (HRCI).
Vicki's presentation
touched on the four types of people we meet a work; Bullies:
the aggressive types, Babies: passive employees, the Brats:
the passive-aggressives and Colleagues: the assertives.
ViewPointShift is "changing the way you look at or think about
things to increase energy and get better results." Vicki
taught us how to look differently and get along with all
people in the workplace.
We learned concepts such as
take a deep breath before speaking when upset, find one
positive thing about a co-worker you don't get along with,
make a positive connection to show that you want to understand
another person's viewpoint and Namaste, loosely translated
meaning "The good in me is looking for the good in you."
Vicki received high marks and some good feedback from
our members: "very good speaker, engaging audience, prepared
with good examples, very effective, well done, entertaining
yet informative, very engaging & professional, great
presentation - light and fun, outstanding, practical." Thank
you to all our attendees and especially for the good feedback.
Don't miss our next event which is on Wednesday, June
6th, at 5:30 pm at the Arts Club of Washington. It's our
annual Officer Installation and Volunteer Appreciation
Program. For more information please go to: www.hra-nca.org.
